If I Had To Choose Just Three Things? Best Add This Iconic One

There are so many beauty and skincare brands that pop onto the market each year but not many of them stand the test of time. Some brands though, get accredited to being a household named brand.

There are only a handful of iconic brands that I can recall from a young age but I can still visualise them on the bathroom shelf. Astral has been on the shelves of houses for over 60 years. The cream, I’m sure, most of you, my dear readers will know of well. I’m sure you will have come across it or are still, like me, using it.

Celebrating their popularity since 1953, Astral asked what three items I couldn’t live without. And I have to say that I found it hard to shrink this small list down!

This Iconic brand celebrates its popularity since 1953

There are only a handful of iconic brands that I can recall. I can still visualise them on the bathroom shelf at a young age.

I remember mum slathering herself in Astral, a moisturising cream I’ve grown up with. There was always a small pot kept hand by the kitchen sink. I have to say that this is my main use for Astral too. It’s a great barrier cream and holds in moisture well.

When mum and myself worked together in her hairdressing salon, there was always a pot of Astral in the staff room for the rest of the salon team to use too.  I often use it before tanning on my elbows knees and ankles too.

I couldn’t live without my travel tweezer kit!

There are only a handful of iconic brands that I can recall. I can still visualise them on the bathroom shelf at a young age.

I have a handy little travel tweezer kit. I don’t just use it for travelling through. The tweezers are the best I’ve ever had and the magnified mirror sticks to most surfaces with its little suckers attached on the back.

I usually stick the mirror to the french doors to get good light. Nothing worse than not being able to get to that tiny just popped through chin hair!

The tweezers really have seen better days but I have purchased so many pairs and none have come close to being as good as these ones yet. I’m quite OCD about facial hair so this kit would definitely be my number two that I couldn’t be without!

Heated rollers would have to be my number three

There are only a handful of iconic brands that I can recall. I can still visualise them on the bathroom shelf at a young age.

I spoke about the problems I’ve had finding the right heated rollers a couple of weeks back. I wished that heated rollers hadn’t changed like Astral hasn’t changed its ingredients and methods of being produced. Why fix something that’s not broke?

Something new to try

There are only a handful of iconic brands that I can recall. I can still visualise them on the bathroom shelf at a young age.

Astral has added to its iconic moisturiser. You can now buy Astral with Shea Butter or Cocoa Butter. They smell heavenly I must say.

And now there is a body wash too. An intensive moisturising, rich lathering body wash. Available in the original or the new Cocoa Butter or Shea Butter. Great for all the family to use. I’ve tried it in the original so far and it left my skin lovely and soft

I’m sticking with nostalgia & Memories

There are only a handful of iconic brands that I can recall. I can still visualise them on the bathroom shelf at a young age.

I don’t dislike the other creams, the Cocoa or the Shea but every time I use this original cream on my hands or body I take a little trip down memory lane, that original scent just takes me there! Hypoallergenic, it’s good to use on my sensitive skin. Lanolin and Glycerin are famed for moisturising, cleansing and a versatile cream that covers all your beauty needs.

Such a good answer – the tweezers! My eyebrows grow insanely fast so I have to pluck stray hairs every few days. It would drive me crazy if I couldn’t tidy them up. πŸ™‚

Don’t think that we have Astral in Australia despite the fact that they are sound quite similar :). I don’t use hot rollers just a couple at the back of my head but I my number one would be a proper hair fan

I’m with you on tweezers! Always in dread of a long white hair that somehow escaped my attention. Astral cream is one of the few things I’ve never used – my mum always used Nivea. I believe it’s Joanna Lumley’s favourite too. Thanks for joining #WowOnWednesday!

I am the oddity among the bloggers since I do not use any products on my face: I wash it with water only and barely ever wake makeup. I do love to read about what other use though because might need to use different things one day!

Hi Mireille. If you were to use anything can I suggest a good SPF to protect your skin from ageing? Those sun rays are pretty harmful! xx

  9. May 7, 2019 / 8:10 am

Don’t need my tweezers so much, and have just started to use my heated rollers again. Might be needing a new set though as mine are ancient! Have never used this cream, always opting for Nivea. Thanks for sharing I’ll be taking a look at it. Happy Tuesday Laurie. Jacqui Mummabstylish

I have to look and see what my rollars are, but I had them years ago and misplaced some of the rollars. I went to Ebay and found the same set with all the rollers! I was more than happy to use my old set of rollers as they work the best!
I haven’t heard of is brand, but imagine it similar to Nivia or Ponds here in the States.
    Have a great day!

It is a similar brand Jess but with a nicer smell! xx

  11. May 5, 2019 / 11:42 pm

I’ve never heard of Astral. In my childhood, it was Noxema that all the mums used on their faces.
And Yes to a good, reliable pair of tweezers.

    Hi Laurie,
My mother bought me Carmen Heated rollers when I was 18, they even had a bottle of gorgeous smelling conditioner which was pored in a tiny vent to give off steam to protect your hair as it coated each roller. I remember a rose πŸ₯€ logo. I had them for about 45 years. They were fantastic.
As you say Laurie β€˜ if it ain’t broke why fix it’ . My Mum and mother- in-law both used Ponds cold cream in a cute little pot. They both had lovely skin.
Happy Bank Holiday, love Pamela from Wales U.K. x

I remember those Pamela! They are what my mum used too! The new rollers are working well. I didn’t think they heated up as much but they seem to be ok xx

I can attest to your problems in finding a good set of hot rollers, as “they” say, “they don’t make ’em like they used to”. My sister has shoulder length hair and has used hot rollers for 40 years to keep her style looking lovely. Her love affair began with the original Clairol hot rollers sometime in 1978. Many women complained about the tangling caused by spikes or teeth on those rollers, she scoffed at their complaints speculating they were simply in too much of a hurry and suffered the consequences of their own doing. She went through several incarnations of the Clairol rollers for years and years and suddenly, they vanished from the store shelves and online companies. Her current set is just, well, barely serviceable. Sadly, she tells me that she’s not had a good hair day since the hot rollers of old left the market.
